This is lot features the "Yellowstone National Park, The Red Portfolio Set", a series of eight (8) photographic prints published by F. Jay Haynes in 1900, a professional photographer, publisher, and entrepreneur from Minnesota who played a major role in documenting through photographs the settlement and early history of the great Northwest. He became both the official photographer of the Northern Pacific Railway and of Yellowstone National Park as well as operating early transportation concessions in the park. His photographs were widely published in articles, journals, books and turned into stereographs, and postcards in the late 19th and early 20th century.
This is a RARE set of views showing Grand Canyon, Old Faithful, Mammoth Hot Springs, Great Falls, Punch Bowl and many more. Each one is marked © Haynes INC. They come in an original red folder titled, Yellowstone National Park The Red Portfolio Set Haynes Studios INC Bozeman, Montana.
The prints are in good overall condition with minor foxing on the margins, edges have minor tears but do not incur into the actual print images. Album cover is torn on the upper fold, side folds have normal wear and tear from age and handling. Each piece measures 10"W x 12.75L"; the album cover measures 10.5"W x 13"L
