Offered in this lot is an elongated shofar made to approximate Yemenite shofars which come from Kudu horns versus ram horns. A shofar is an ancient musical horn typically made of a ram's horn, used for Jewish religious purposes. The shofar is blown in synagogue services on Rosh Hashanah and at the end of Yom Kippur, it is also blown every weekday morning in the month of Elul running up to Rosh Hashanah. A Yemenite shofar is unique because it is made from an African antelope or kudu. These shofars tend to have elongated and curvy bodies and come in deep, warm brown tones. The Yemenite shofar can be distinguished from the traditional ram’s horn shofar not only for its look, but also its sound. Yemenite shofars produce a strong, brass sound that will echo across the synagogue or wherever its blown. This shofar is constructed of seven separate sections and a mouthpiece. There are specific rabbinical requirements to the construction and subsequent blowing of the shofar. This shofar is in fair to good overall condition, glues used to join sections are dried out, no other obvious marring observed. Measures 26"L
