Presented in this lot are thirteen (13) Chromolithograph Book Plates after watercolors by H. W. Hansen and Carll Dahlgren, circa 1890. These watercolors were featured in the book, "Yosemite Illustrated In Colors" by Warren Cheney printed by Crocker & Co., San Francisco First Edition 1890. "The chromolithographic views often were used with promotional material issued by various California merchants in a number of formats, including broadsides which reproduced a chromolithograph, part of a poem, and advertising copy." - Currey & Kruska 97. The views consist of classic Yosemite including Sentinel Rock, Bridal Veil, El Capitan, The Cascades, The Three Brothers, Vernal Falls, Cathedral Spires, Nevada Falls, Cathedral Rock, Yosemite Falls, Half Dome, General View, and The Snow Plant. Dahlgren, the well-known landscape and portrait artist, is known as "the sunshine painter" for the shaft of light which appears in many of his works. Hansen was a superb draftsman who made highly realistic and detailed depictions of horses, riders, and the rugged western landscape. Although he did work in oil, most of his paintings are watercolor, and he is considered a virtuosi practitioner of the medium. These watercolors are in amazingly fine condition for their age, very suitable for framing. No marring observed. Each board measures 11.5"L x 8.5"W.*
