Featured in this lot Yupik Eskimo coiled grass and yarn basket circa 1940's. The basket features a wonderfully and professionally crafted coiling construction with beach rye grass woven on willow splints to make the coiled lid and basket itself that includes zig zagging decoration. The basket shows sections that are decorated with yarn throughout the basket giving this basket identity and interesting decorum. Yupik Eskimo basket weaving is a traditional craft practiced by the Yupik people, an indigenous group primarily located in Alaska and Siberia. This art form is known for its intricate designs, use of natural materials, and cultural significance. The condition of this Eskimo coiled basket is good with no obvious signs of damage and shows good overall condition. The measurements of this of this coiled basket is 3 3/4" x 8 1/2" x 8 1/2". The collective weight of this basket is 6oz.
