Featured in this lot is this Zapotec bright mesa sun medallion Saltillo rug. The rug shows a traditional design of multi bands that fade into a bright mesa-like setting that then fades into a brightly colored dazzler sun design with a grey field. Zapotec rugs are wool-woven in a foot loom in Teotitlan del Valle, Oaxaca. The town has a pre-Hispanic weaving tradition and is world famous for its fine tapestries and wall hangings decorated with traditional Zapotec and Mixtec fretwork, idols, animals, or reproductions of famous creations by artists like Diego Rivera, Pablo Picasso, and M.C. Esher. The condition of this rug is good, with no obvious signs of damage. The measurements of this rug are 38 1/2" x 21".
