Featured in this lot is this Zapotec hand woven, medallion saltillo rug. The rug shows fantastic design with coloration of cream, clay red, indigo blue, and sage green. The rug shows each end finished with tassels across the edge of the rug and unique examples of Zapotec medallions shown in the larger bands. Zapotec rugs are wool-woven in a foot loom in Teotitlan del Valle, Oaxaca. The town has a pre-Hispanic weaving tradition and is world famous for its fine tapestries and wall hangings decorated with traditional Zapotec and Mixtec fretwork, idols, animals, or reproductions of famous creations by artists like Diego Rivera, Pablo Picasso, and M.C. Esher. The condition of this rug is good, with some wear consistent with age and one spot of fray on the boarder and a small stain. The measurements of this rug are 70" x 46".
