Featured in this lot is a large and very beautiful Zapotec hand woven rug. Zapotec rug making is a very intensive and organic process, starting with the creation of natural dyes and using materials such as moss, bark, plants, fruits, seeds, flowers, and even insects. After the dye is created the wool is cleaned and filled with color in an almost boiling bath. After the wool has been prepared, it can be strung and finally used in the weaving process. This rug in particular boasts a red base color with two striking diamonds in the center. The diamonds are framed in gold and black with a rainbow of colors in the center. The rug is also adorned with medium-cut fringe at each end. This rug is in good condition and has bright colors and a tight weave. The rug measures 40" X 23".
