Featured in this lot is this Zapotec Oaxaca banded Saltillo rug, circa 1960's. The rug shows a slightly banded blue and black turquoise field with slightly crystal banded medallions and a pinstripe design in its center. Zapotec rugs are wool-woven in a foot loom in Teotitlan del Valle, Oaxaca. The town has a pre-Hispanic weaving tradition and is world famous for its fine tapestries and wall hangings decorated with traditional Zapotec and Mixtec fretwork, idols, animals, or reproductions of famous creations by artists like Diego Rivera, Pablo Picasso, and M.C. Esher. The condition of this Zapotec rug is good, with slight wear to the rug. The measurements of this rug are 42" x 32 1/2".
