Featured in this lot is a Zapotec Oaxaca banded Saltillo rug, circa 1960's. The rug shows traditional coloration of banded yellow, red, and green with sewn 'X' of red and black and grey tassels. Zapotec rugs are wool-woven in a foot loom in Teotitlan del Valle, Oaxaca. The town has a pre-Hispanic weaving tradition and is world famous for its fine tapestries and wall hangings decorated with traditional Zapotec and Mixtec fretwork, idols, animals, or reproductions of famous creations by artists like Diego Rivera, Pablo Picasso, and M.C. Esher. The condition of this rug is good, with no obvious signs of damage. The measurements of this Oaxaca banded Saltillo rug are 74" x 48".
