Featured in this lot is this hand colored engraving titled, "Il risultato di una Corsa" (The Result of the race) after Carle Vernet (1758-1836), published by D'apres Vernet, circa late 19th century. Antoine Charles Horace Vernet, better known as Carle Vernet, was a French painter born in 1758 in Bordeaux, France. He was the youngest child of Claude-Joseph Vernet and the father of Horace Vernet. He passed away in 1836 in Paris, France. This engraving is hand colored and shows a group of people standing around two horses after the race. One horse is rearing on its hind legs, while the other pulls hard on its reigns. Various people stand around and watch the scene while other racers can be seen in the background and other people can be seen in the stands on the right hand side. The bottom of the engraving is marked reading, "Il risultato di una Corsa". Near the bottom right of the engraving it reads, "D'apres Vernet". The piece is set in a gold colored frame and is matted once with white matting paper. The visible artwork measures 15 3/4" L x 21 5/8" W, while the entire piece measures 21 7/8" L x 28" W x 1 1/8" D. It has a total weight of 6 pounds and 10 ounces.
