For your consideration are two decorative sterling serving spoons made by George Smith III circa 1781-1782. George Smith III was apprenticed to Thomas Chawner in 1765. His son George Smith IV was apprenticed to William Fearn in 1786 and worked from 1799-1807. Both spoons feature stampings on the bottom of the necks showing the artist's hallmark "GS", the left facing lion passant showing it was made in London, the town mark of London, and a "J" for the year it was made (1781-1782). Both spoons show intricate detail and designs on the top and bottom of the neck, handle and bowl of the spoon. The bowls of the spoons shows a floral and fruit design set in the center of the bowl and each spoon shows a warm patina from their antique age. The bowls of the spoons appear to be gold-washed but are showing fading to the golden hue. The spoons show good condition overall with no signs of obvious damage present. The spoons measure 8 7/16" L x 1 11/16" W x 1" H. The collective weight of the spoons is 107.6 grams.
