The lot features an original 19th Century cast iron hitching post with unique horse’s head top. The piece shows a cast iron top and the original metal post with original cast iron ring tie offs at the mouth, a rare addition. The piece has an older black paint with nice patina and displays very well. Original complete hitching post from the American Frontier West are exceedingly rare with this piece being recovered here from an old Bozeman estate. The hitching post shows strong solid construction with a horse head with 2 1/2" rings in either side of the mouth of the horse and stands tall on a black cast iron post that would be anchored into the ground. The condition of this hitching post is good with very little signs of damage or wear. The measurements of this hitching post 75" x 9" x 5 1/2".
