The lot features an 1800’s beaver pelt top hat which shows a USS crossed sabers hat emblem, beaded hat band and Texas star emblem. The U.S.S. hat badge is made of brass and appears to be an original circa 1880’s United States Indian Service scout piece from the Indian Wars era showing cross cavalry sabers with sheaths holding the letters above having two brass loops to attach to the hat, which are merely punctured through the bever or felt hat. The beaded band has a Southern Plains appearance done on hide with later glass seed beads in colors of greasy green, corn yellow, black and red with two strips of trade clothe attached at the rear. The front also shows a five-point star in a circle, likely made of nickel silver (not tested) with a flat head screw on back and leather washer. The piee has a vague resemblance to the old Texas Ranger Star but is likely off of a saddle or headstall. Unusual pairing collection of pieces which display nicely. The top hat appears to have been pushed in slightly with creases and slight cracking of the clothe lining on the inside. Measures overall 11.5”W by 9.75”W by 5.5”H. The head opening is approximately 21.5”L inside circumference. The emblem hat badge is 2.75”x1.5”.
