For your consideration in this lot is a collection of Venetian glass padre trade bead necklaces. The collection consists of two sky blue beaded necklaces, a rare white necklace, and a rare yellow necklace. The necklaces are made of padre beads that originate from the early- to mid-19th century. Padre Beads have received their name from use as prayer beads among Spanish friars and monks. Padre beads are divided into different sizes; these necklaces are all made of "Crow" size beads, which is an average of 1/4" X 3/8". The first two necklaces are made of "Sky Blue" Padre beads. One has a 28" circumference and 106 beads on raffia; the other has a 24" circumference and 90 beads strung on waxed fiber. The next necklace is of the rare color, white Padre beads. The necklace measures 26" in circumference and has 102 beads strung on raffia. The last necklace is made of the rare color, yellow Padre beads. The necklace measures 28" in circumference and has 101 beads strung on raffia. There is slight color variation to these beads, depending on what cane they were cut from. The beads and these necklaces are in good condition, showing wear to be expected due to their age.
