Featured in this lot are two Simon Harris sterling serving spoons circa 1812. Simon Harris developed his silversmithing abilities while working as an apprentice in London. He established his own shop and company and started making a variety of silver goods, such as flatware, tableware, tea sets, and other decorative items. Harris was renowned for his attention to detail, intricate designs, and superior craftsmanship. He catered to the Victorian aristocracy and elite, who bought his silverware for their own use and as gifts. Harris developed a reputation for producing beautiful items that captured the luxury and elegance of the Victorian era. In the middle to end of the 19th century, when Simon Harris was at the height of his success, his creations were shown and featured in prestigious exhibitions and fairs, winning him praise and recognition for his contributions to the silverware industry. Both spoons show the same markings on the bottom of the handle, starting with the Simon Harris hallmark of "SH" followed by a walking lion stamp showing it was made in England, the London town mark, a letter "R" indicating the date it was made (1812) and lastly, the sovereign or duty mark, showing a kings head facing right indicating it was made during George III rule. The spoons show decorative floral designs in the bowls with stamped initials on the top of the handle. The serving spoons shows good condition overall featuring a warm patina to the sterling, but no obvious signs of damage are present. The spoons measure 8 5/8" L x 1 7/8" W x 3/4" H. The collective weight of the two spoons is 124 grams.
