This 1850 stamped Indian Peace medal displays just the head of President Millard Fillmore on one side. Fillmore faces to the right and the legend around his head reads, “MILLARD FILLMORE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES 1850.” Just below the bust is the name of S. Ellis. The reverse side displays an Indian and a settler in front of the American flag with a plow and axe between them by Joseph Willson. These medals were not struck inside the Mint, but rather contracted out, possibly to a location in New York City. Only 120 large medals were officially struck. This is a very handsome example of the Largest Size 76mm, official 1850 dated Millard Fillmore Indian Peace Medal. This current medal has a natural, medium brown color, high gloss smooth surfaces. The medal is on a cloth wide neck sash. A similar example of this medal sold for $1,062. Please closely examine the pictures of the peace metal and determine its originality and age due to your own inspection, we make no claim of age for the peace metal.
