For your consideration is an Antique 1860 Colt Civil War Army .44 Caliber Percussion Revolver Bullet Mold. Also included is a Pre-Civil War era .35 caliber lead musket ball mold. The Colt bullet mold is the standard two-cavity mold casting one spherical and one conical bullet that was supplied by Colt with each revolver in civilian and private sales, and included at the rate of about 25 for every 50 revolvers in crates sent to the government. The top pivoting steel cutter plate, the Sprue Cutter, bears a crisp two-line “Colt’s Patent” stamp on top, and a “44H” on the right side, indicating it is for the Colt .44 Caliber Army revolver, the “H” being an outmoded designation for “holster” versus a .36 caliber “belt” revolver. The interior blocks are uniquely configured to cast two different lead projectiles in a single pour: one spherical round ball and one conical bullet. The .35 caliber mold small size was typically used for early percussion pocket revolvers, boot pistols, or small-bore "squirrel rifles" utilized for hunting small game. Both molds are cast iron, both are nice condition, oxidation and pitting consistent with age and use. Respective measurements are 1.125"W x 5"L x 1.125"D and 1"W x 5"L x .75"D. Collective weight is 8oz.
