Featured in this lot is a 1869 1st edition of Our New West by Samuel Bowles. Our New West is a detailed account of Bowles' journey across the Western United States, beginning in the Mississippi River Valley and extending to the Pacific Ocean. The book is a mix of travel narrative, social commentary, and observations on the natural environment. Samuel Bowles (1826–1878) was a well-known American journalist and editor. He was the editor of the Springfield Republican, a newspaper based in Springfield, Massachusetts. Bowles was a strong advocate for political and social reform and was influential in shaping public opinion during his time. The condition of this book shows some wear to the spine and outside cover of the book with some loosening to the spine and browning to the pages consistent with the age of this book. The measurements of this book are 9" x 6" x 1 3/4". The collective weight of this book is 2lb 4oz.*
