Featured in this lot is this 1879 first edition copy of Volume I and II of “Arround the World with General Grant” by John Russell Young. This is a two-volume pair of books that narrate the visit of General U.S. Grant to various countries, such as Europe, Asia, and Africa, in 1877, 1878, 1879, including certain conversations with General Grant and questions connected with American politics and history. The book includes 800 illustrations and maps. The set was released from the Chicago Historical Society and subsequently sold; the word 'Around' is incorrectly spelled on the spine but corrected before the bulk of the set was printed. The condition of these books is fair-to-good, with wear along the outside of the spine and some browning to the pages consistent with the age of the book. The measurements of this book are 10 3/4" x 7 3/4" for both volumes.
