Offered in this lot is a signed polychrome pottery jar by Hopi Irma David from the 1970-1980's. Irma David is the sister of well-known Hopi artist, Neil David Sr. From Polacca, at First Mesa, Irma is a traditionalist in every sense. This Hopi Pottery Jar is handmade of natural clay indigenous to the area and is decorated using mineral stone paint. Firing in traditional Hopi methods adds to the character of the pots and plates by providing "blush marks" or "fire clouds." These are darker areas on the ceramics. This wonderful jar's design is bold. It is repeated only twice, once on front and then on the opposite side. By keeping the number of designs to only two, the potter was able to make each one large and prominent. The jar measures 4 1/4" tall and 16" around, with a 2 1/2" opening. The pot is in very good condition, featuring no obvious signs of damage.
