For your consideration are two, Luke & Wheeler's original stereoviews of Columbus Mine near Garfield and a lumber yard from their Rocky Mountain Views collection between 1879-1881. Luke & Wheeler were photographers who operated a studio at 427 Harrison St. in Leadville, Colorado, between 1879 and 1881. They are known for a photograph of hydraulic mining in California Gulch, Leadville, which demonstrates the mining method of using high-pressure water to extract gold. The first photo shows Columbus Mine near Columbus Gluch, on Taylor Mountain northwest of Garfield. The scene shows various workers doing their daily jobs at the mine as wood buildings sit on the side of the mountain. The sides of the photo are marked reading, "Rocky Mountain Views / Luke & Wheeler's". The second photo shows a large lumber yard where various men can be seen working their jobs and moving large logs. A horse drawn wagon can be seen going up the hill on the right hand side. The photo is marked on the sides reading, "Luke & Wheeler's / Rocky Mountain Views". The photos show good condition overall with some wear present from their age and use over the years, but no major signs of damage is noted. The photos measure 3 7/8" L x 7" W and have a collective weight of under 6 ounces.
