For your consideration is this E. Ingraham parlor clock circa 1880-1890s. E. Ingraham & Company was formed in 1860, succeeding several earlier clock-manufacturing firms in which case maker Elias Ingraham had been involved. Elias Ingraham (1805-1885) designed a variety of popular cases and case features for the firm, receiving 17 patents between 1857 and 1873. Many of his cases utilized an unusual figure "8" door design for which he had received a patent in 1857. Elias Ingraham's son Edward Ingraham (1830-1892) succeeded his father as head of the business in 1885. Edward had also received an important patent in 1884 for a method of applying black enamel paint to wooden clock cases. This clock features intricate carved wood designs and is coated with black paint giving the clock a dark look and slight texture to the wood. It features a wood and glass door with geometric and floral designs on the glass for easy access to the movement and winding mechanisms. On the inside of the clock it features a swinging pendulum marked, "No. 7" on the back. Behind where the hammer strikes the gong, there is a cast iron piece marked, "E. Ingraham Co. Bristol, CT, U.S.A." showing it was made by E. Ingraham Clock Company in Bristol, Connecticut. The face of the clock has roman numerals set on a white background with two hands and two holes for winding. The back of the clock has some of the original paper but most has been torn off. This vintage clock is in good condition with some wear from its old age and no signs of obvious damage. The clock has not been tested for functionality. The clock measures 24" H x 14 7/8" W x 4 7/8" D.
