Offered in this lot is a 1885 Grover Cleveland peace medal on a necklace of five layer chevron trade beads. Beginning in 1877, United States Presidential Indian Peace Medals were made in an Oval format and made thicker than previously. The dies for the Grover Cleveland Indian Peace Medal were engraved by Charles Barber and George Morgan, both known for their coinage designs. Examples of this medal were struck from 1885 through 1904. This medal is one of the last Indian Peace Medals to be made by the United States. Many Indian Peace medals were re-struck at a latter date in various metals for collectors. This coin measures 70mm x 53mm and is aon a necklace of chevron trade beads that measures 31" around.
