Featured in this lot is a first edition leather bound copy of The Oregon Trail by Francis Parkman circa 1892. Francis Parkman (1823-1893) was an American historian and valued for his works an was one of the most notable historians. This book comes complete with notes by Mabel Dodge Holmes, Ph. D and shows an introduction by Howard R. Diggs president of Oregon Trail Memorial Association and a professor of English at New York University. This is a illustrated copy featuring 77 illustrations by Frederick Remington. The book shows a leather cover with the front and spice displaying gilt gold inlay. The cover shows a sun and bow in gold with simple figures across the top with "The OREGON TRAIL" across the top and "FRANCIS PARKMAN" across the bottom. Overall the piece shows good but worn condition showing damage and wear across the cover and pages due to use and age. The book measures 9" tall by 6 1/4" wide and 1 1/8" thick.
