For your bidding pleasure are these 1893-1940s George Lawrence Marked Bat Wing Chaps. 1857 is the year the George Lawrence Company was founded in Portland Oregon. The George Lawrence Company became the largest producer of saddles in the Northwest. Many were shipped from the West Coast to the gold strike area in Alaska and the Yukon Territory. It was a saddlery and harness shop made famous by also producing exquisite leather goods such as handgun holsters, fishing creels, cartridge belts, slings, scabbards, etc. The company evolved into a wholesaler and supplier of auto parts, shoe repair and shoe store supplies, hat blocking equipment, fishing, and hunting supplies. The Company ceased operations in 1985 when family members retired, and the historic 1/4-block, 4-story brick building that George Lawrence built in 1903 in downtown Portland was sold. The condition of these chaps are in are good with a bit of wear and tear from work it would seem. These bat wing chaps have clasp connectors three per side with the rings attached to main body of chaps by three brass studded leather Rosette's on either side. These chaps are stamped "CEO Lawrence Co. Portland Or." on one side of belt and "34" on the other side. The measurements of these chaps are 42" x 15".
