Featured in this lot is the rare book, "Small Arms Firing Regulations", by Captain Stanhope E. Blunt, 1894, seventh edition. This is from the library of George W. Reif the City Treasurer from Virginia City, Montana, as marked on the inside cover. "(By Authority) Firing Regulations For Small Arms For The United States Army Prepared By Command Of Brigadier-General S. V. Benet Chief Of Ordnance, U. S. Army By Captain Stanhope E. Blunt, Ordnance Department Inspector Of Small Arms Practice at the Headquarters of the Army Third Edition New York Charles Scribner's Son's 1894". 368 pages and illustrated with line drawings, it contains just about everything you'd ever want to know about target practice with the US Model 1873, 1884, and 1888 Trapdoor Springfield Rifles in 45-70. This document covers the course of instruction for training soldiers in use, knowledge, and accuracy of rifle and carbine firing for effectiveness in battle. This blue cloth bound gold gilt stamped illustration hardcover exhibits moisture staining and warping, scuffing to edges. Brass clasp closure has patina, intact pages have slight ink bleed through from cover moisture marring. Measures 3.5"W x 4.75"L x .75"D
