For your consideration is an 18th Century Louis XV Carved Walnut Wall Estanier. This French Provençal Estanier (the Provençal name for this kind of hanging shelf) is a wonderful example of practicality and craftsmanship. An Estanier was originally used as a hanging shelf to display a pewter collection, or "Etains". This elegant antique shelf embodies the timeless appeal of the classic Louis XV period furniture workmanship. When Louis XV, who reigned from 1715–74, focused royal life on the smaller salons of Versailles rather than its grand chambers, it transformed the aesthetics away from the imposing and angular furniture that characterized the style of Louis XIV. A broader focus on comfort and more delicate forms define antique Louis XV furniture, with nature-inspired carvings, wood inlays, curved cabriole legs, and asymmetrical shapes. This farmhouse inspired Estanier features two serpentine carved shelves across the front decorated with acanthus and rocaille designs, serpentine carved apron has pierced rocaille cartouche. The intricately carved cornice features and stands on embellished with decorative finials. Serpentine carved side rails flow down to finial topped acanthus carved cabriole legs which finish in escargot feet. Rich patina exhibited throughout, original natural wood imperfections visible adding to the warm countryside charm. The Estanier is in wonderfully preserved condition, finish exhibits very slight wear from age and use. Measures 39.25"W x 51.25"L x 8.5"H
