For your consideration is a Rare Late-18th-Century to 19th-Century Portuguese Dom José I Rococo Walnut Burlwood Upholstered Parlor Bench. Portuguese late-18th to 19th-century furniture is a striking fusion of European historical revivals (Baroque, Rococo, and Empire) and rich colonial aesthetics. Distinctive features include dark exotic woods, intricate floral carvings, bold turned legs, and ornate brass hardware. Pieces frequently emulated the opulent curves of the Baroque and Rococo (Dom José I) eras. In Portugal, the Louis XV furniture era is known as the Dom José I (D. José I, King Joseph I) style, which dominated between 1750 and 1777. It adapted French Rococo aesthetics, blending them with robust Italian Baroque lines, English Chippendale structural framework, and regional craftsmanship. This era is celebrated for its dynamic curves and high-quality construction. Pieces feature sinuous curves, delicate asymmetrical carvings (like C and S scrolls), and a rich blending of European elegance with materials from the country's vast global trade. This parlor bench features rich, plush red upholstery, beautiful bombé leaded and beveled glass cabinet sections, the cornice above the framed beveled mirror has a beautifully handcarved floral pediment, basketweave floral carvings on cabinet sections frame legs, stamped brass escutcheon locking hardware on each section, glass cabinets have simple leaded glass geometric designs that are subtle and but allow you to see inside clearly. Rich walnut grain is striking. A stunning piece of history and craftsmanship. This piece was created as a match to the Bombé Sideboard China Cabinet found in this auction. This parlor bench is in amazingly well preserved condition. Slight fading damage observed, right bottom trim damage observed, slight face laminate damage noted. Upper right cabinet pull missing. Bench measures, each bombé glass cabinet is, mirror is . Combined weight is
