For your consideration is an 18th Century Louis XV Walnut Dough Box on Stand. The hand carved "Petrin Provençal" (French for dough or kneading trough) is a wonderful example of practicality and craftsmanship. It sits on four turned legs, the front two ending with escargot feet. The Dough Box features a shaped molded edge overhanging top with breadboard ends, above canted sides. Locking front drop down panel reveals a wonderful interior storage, period escutcheon, key included. Panel has nicely carved scroll designs. The stand features exquisite Provençal floral carvings including a basket of flowers and acanthus leaves and vines on the serpentine carved apron as well as the serpentine carved lower front and rear stretchers, side stretchers nicely serpentine carved. This beautiful Dough Box and stand are in nice preserved condition, the natural condition of the wood is visible consistent with the nature-inspired focus of the Louis XV period, general marks, splitting, nicks, scratches, and wear commensurate with age and use. Dough Box measures 23"W x 51"L x 10"H, with stand is 38.75"H. I weights 77 pounds.
