This is an original 18th Century to 19th Century Guan Yin White Quartz entryway garden statue on a metal base. In Chinese mythology, Guanyin (??) is the goddess of mercy and considered to be the physical embodiment of compassion. Guan Yin is the Bodhisattva of Great Compassion in Mahayana Buddhism and is also worshipped by Taoists. The name Guan Yin also spelt Guan Yim, Kuan Yim, Kwan Im, or Kuan Yin, is a short form for Kuan-shi Yin, meaning "Observing the Sounds (or Cries) of the (human) world. In the modern period, Guan Yin is most often represented as a beautiful, white-robed woman, a depiction which derives from the earlier Pandaravasini form. The arm-less statue appears to have been used as a garden statue, the metal base exhibits oxidation and rust on the undeside, oxidation noted around base rim. Statue appears in good overall condition, soiling observed consistent with use in outdoors. Approximate measurements 20"H x 6.25"W, base is 6" diameter. Weight approximate is 20lb, 6oz
