Lot containing five very early 20th Century cartridge boxes. Four are Winchester two-piece boxes with labels for the .30 Army cartridge (.30-40 Krag). Two of the boxes have a top label stating “.30 ARMY POINTED SOFT POINT 150 GR.” and two top labels state “.30-220 CALIBER MODEL 1895 SOFT POINT” (this refers to the cartridges being loaded with 220 grain bullets for the Winchester Model 1895 lever action rifle). The side labels on all four boxes state “FOR KRAG JORGENSON AND WINCHESTER REPEATING RIFLE MODEL 1895.” One box for the 150 grain load contains no cases; One box for the 220 grain bullet contains 14 fired early Winchester cases and two boxes contain a full 20 fired early Winchester cases. The fifth box is an early 20th century two piece for “20 CTGS U.S. GOVERNMENT STANDARD .45 CALIBRE SMOKELESS POWDER 500 GRS. BULLET” By the Union Metallic Cartridge Co., Bridgeport, Conn. This is an unopened box with both end flaps missing and contains 18 rounds (two lost at some point from the open ends.
