Remington Model 6 .22 Short, Long and Long Rifle Boys’ rifle. This is an outstanding example of an early 20h century single shot rifle intended for young boys and girls. Small in length, but high in quality, the Remington used a simple rolling block breech design in which the hammer is put on half cock and the breech block is pulled back and down exposing the chamber and activating the ejector for easy loading and unloading. Normally, these rifles when found are in poor condition having been used long and hard by their young owners. This example is exceptional because it retains nearly all the factory case hardening colors on the receiver sides. Usually these important colors have faded or worn to gray. The receiver markings are also sharp and include the serial number of 451262 along with the correct Remington Arms Company stampings and address. The barrel also retains all the sharp markings including caliber stampings and Remington markings. The barrel is fitted with and retains the original adjustable buckhorn rear sight with factory blade/bead front sight. Further, the barrel retains fine blue that is mixing evenly with plum from age. The small forearm is excellent. There is a very thin crack in the butt stock coming back from the upper tang on the left side with no wood loss that should be easy to reinforce with little apparent visibility. Smooth steel butt plate and surprisingly fine bore (these usually found with poor, pitted bores). The Model 6 was manufactured from 1902-1933 as a simple takedown rifle. By unscrewing a thumbscrew on the bottom of the receiver, the barrel assembly can easily be removed and replaced in a matter of seconds. This was especially made for bicycle or rucksack carry. A wonderful example from a time when children were encouraged to safely handle and use firearms. The rifle weighs 3lbs 6oz.. Serial Number: 451362. This firearm qualifies as a Curio & Relic firearm, and requires FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
