For your consideration is this 1907 Photograph of the Hotel La Rita in Tombstone, Arizona Territory. Provenance: From the Tombstone Western Heritage Museum in Tombstone, Arizona. Originally known as the Hotel Nobles, the name was changed in 1904 when Jim Herron bought the hotel and opened a saloon two doors west of the Crystal Palace. Jim Herron held many different jobs: cattle driver, herd owner, saloon keeper, saloon owner, first sheriff of Beaver County, Oklahoma, cattle rustler, farrier, hotel/saloon owner, partner of the Gold Queen mine, and a property owner in an Arizona boom town named Courtland. He accomplished most of this while he was a fugitive. The family moved to Courtland, AZ, in 1910, after business in Tombstone slowed enough to make further operations there unprofitable. Jim opened the Pastime Pool Hall, owned a two story brick hotel, ranched, and opened a slaughter house and butcher shop (Courtland Market). The slaughter house would be the cause of his final run-in with the law. The fiber board mounted photograph shows a visiting Lodge (Loyal Order of Moose) group posing in front of the hotel. Names of the men are written along the top and bottom borders of the mounting. Photo is dated "Tombstone A. T. 2/23/07". The building in the background is Schlieffen Hall. The fiber board mounted photograph is in good overall condition, age tanning is consistent with age, board exhibits staining, age tanning and foxing. Photograph measures 7.625"W x 9.625"L, board is 11.875"W x 15.5"L. Weight is U6.
