For your consideration are these two Helena, Montana advertisement calendars from 1914. The first in this collection is a Lutey's advertisement calendar from Butte, Montana. Lutey’s Market in the Stephens Block at Park and Montana was the first self-serve grocery store in the United States. Lutey’s stores were established initially in Granite (now a ghost town) in 1889. Joseph Lutey moved the operation to Philipsburg in 1895 and finally into Butte in 1897, where he and his sons built it into one of the largest grocery chains in Montana. The calendar features a piece of art titled, "The Fish Story". The calendar only features the month of December, 1914 and a second page with all the months condensed onto one page. The calendar is in fair condition with creasing and wear, as well as some pencil markings. It measures 22" L x 13 7/8" W. The second advertisement calendar is from Grainey Bros. that was located on 24 North Main Street, Helena, Montana. The calendar reads, "Grainey Bros., Dealers in Indian Curios, Leather Goods, Souvenirs, Novelties, Stationary and Church Goods, Masquerade Costumes, Helena Stamp Works" and features a complete 12 month calendar for the year 1914. The featured art is titled, "The Fallen Giant" by John MacWhirter in 1911. The calendar is in good condition overall with slight wear and a crease across the top. It measures 10 1/2" L x 8 7/8" W.
