This is a scarce 1930 "Haynes New Guide The Complete Handbook of Yellowstone National Park" by Jack Ellis Haynes, B. A., the official photographer and concessionaire of Yellowstone National Park. From the photograph page preceding the Preface, "The year 1931 marks the Golden Anniversary of the First Summer of Photographing by Frank Jay Haynes in Yellowstone National Park". Jack, creator of Haynes Picture Shops, and his father, Frank, were internationally renown for their photographs of Yellowstone National Park. Frank J. Haynes (1853 – 1921) and his son, Jack Ellis Haynes (1884 – 1962) are considered to be the photo historians of Yellowstone National Park. Their beautiful hand tinted photographs document the early history of the Park. Prior to the advent of colour photography, the Haynes Studios of Yellowstone National Park and St. Paul, MN perfected the process of hand colouring the black and white photos of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This forty-first revised 1930 edition of Haynes Guides written by Jack Ellis Haynes is a wonderful glimpse into Yellowstone National Park as it has been documented in the Haynes guides since 1910 – first by Frank Jay Haynes and then later by his son Jack. The vintage black and white photography by Jack Ellis Haynes captures the beauty and power of the many natural phenomenon found in only a few places in the world thus they fascinate us with their behavior and striking beauty. The expertise of these two-family members, along with the National Park Service, have combined to create a wonderfully historic view of our first National Park using text, maps and vintage photos. The longstanding value of the guides, a staple in Yellowstone Park from 1890 to 1964, one can safely say are attributed to the Haynes legacy. The guide contains more than 100 maps, photographs, illustrations and diagrams. The guide is complete with the fold out map inside the back cover. The green clothbound stamped illustrated guide features Art Nouveau style boards on the front and rear. This Haynes Guide is in very good condition for its age, no marring or damages noted. A scarce edition difficult to find in this high condition. It measures 5"W x 6.75"L. The fold out map measures 9"W x 12"L, weight is 6oz.
