Included in this lot is an Original Charcoal Drawing, "Charcoal Bandit", signed. Charcoal has been a popular medium for drawing since the Renaissance. At that time it was used for preparatory purposes to develop ideas and outlines and areas of shadow. Nineteenth century artists used it to make highly finished drawings. Charcoal is prized for its ability to produce an interplay between light and shadow. In this piece, all those areas are touched upon with particular attention given to the Bandit's side-eye glancing facial expression, his hat, his hands, nose, ear, eye and especially his moustache. All come together as if to tell the viewer he is not to be trifled with. Artist's signature and date on upper right corner. The drawing is mounted in a double matted, gold gilt wood frame and is in very nice overall condition. Visible art measures 4.25"W x 6.25"L, frame is 12"W x 15"L x .75"D, weight is 1lb, 14oz.
