For your consideration is this 1940's Colson chain-driven tricycle. The Colson company started in the in the 1880's when Winslow Fay started making bicycles in Elyria, Ohio. Fay Manufacturing also produced tricycles marketed especially for handicapped adults, selling them under the name "Fairy". Fay sold the company in 1891. In 1917 Fay Manufacturing, Fairy, and Worthington were separate companies owned by one person and producing similar or compatible products. The companies were merged into one and renamed "Colson" for Fred Colson, the salesman responsible for the merger. It was in 1917 that Colson augmented its tricycle line-up with more models and sizes. This 1940's tricycle boasts chain drive, semi-Pneumatic Goodyear Tires, a back plate for standing and a spring-loaded saddle. The trike appears to have been repainted but is otherwise all original and has good "bones". It is missing the front fender, head badge and handle grips. A seat repair or replacement and a new front tire are all that would be needed for complete functionality. The tricycle measures about 47" in length, is 32" high, and is 19.5" wide. It has 16" back wheels and a 20" front wheel.
