The lot features two original Winold Reiss (1886-1953) Blackfeet Montana artwork from the Great Northern Railway Empire Builder large calendar toppers from 1944 and 1956 showing Blackfeet Indian Maiden Mountain Flower and Blackfeet Indian Matron Buckskin Pinto Woman, both from Glacier National Park, Montana. Winold Reiss (1886-1953) was a German-born American artist, he immigrated to the United States in 1913 to follow his passion for Native Americans and by 1920 he went West to spend time on the Blackfeet Indian Reservation in Montana outside of Glacier National Park, creating more than 250 artworks depicting the people of the Blackfeet. In 1931, and 1934-37, Reiss organized a summer art school, also referred to as an artists' colony near Glacier National Park. The lot features two original Winold Reiss Great Northern calendar topper artworks. This calendar features Winold Reiss's painting titled, "Buckskin Pinto Woman - Blackfeet Indian Matron - Glacier National Park In Montana". The calendar has been used and only features December, 1956. The calendar shows good to fair condition as it features some slight wear and slight damage from its age and use over the years. The second calendar features the "Mountain Flower" image and reads, "Mountain Flower - Blackfeet Indian Maiden - Glacier National Park, Montana / Route of the Empire Builder". This calendar only features the November & December months of 1944. This calendar shows fair condition overall with wear present from its age and use over the years, but no major signs of damage is noted. They measure 33 3/8" L x 16 1/8" W and have a collective weight of under 6 ounces.
