Featured in this lot is an original 1949 U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service "Smokey Says" sign, printed by the U.S. Government Printing Office and designed by James Hansen. In the sign, it shows Smokey the Bear wearing his ranger hat and holding a shovel while peering over a fence that has a sign on it, reminding the reader that, "Only you can prevent forest fires." The sign shows various ways to prevent wildfires such as, "Crush It / Break It / Drown It / Use It". The bottom of the sign reads, "U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service / Division of Protection Pennsylvania Department of Forests And Waters". The sign shows good condition with no wear or tears present and is set on a large cardstock paper and plastic wrapped. The sign measures 18 1/8" L x 12 3/4" W.*
