For your consideration is this Simplex 35mm movie reel holder/feeder circa 1950-1970s. From the early 1900s until the digital era took over in the 21st century, the 35mm movie reel was the industry standard. Up to 2,000 feet of film, which could be played for about 20 minutes, could be stored on the metal reels. The projector would first be loaded with film, after which the reel would be mounted on a spindle and fed through all of the projector's working parts. One of the most widely used 35mm projector models was the Simplex. The Simplex was widely used in movie theaters, classrooms, and other institutions that screened motion pictures because of its dependability, durability and user friendliness. The reel is set on a metal base. the reel reads, "simplex" on the front. Below Simplex, it shows a small glass window with thin wire set over it. The back of the reel holder features a small bell, so when the movie was over, a mechanism would be triggered on the inside, ringing the bell on the outside signaling that the movie was over. This reel has been made into a folk art cabinet with two shelves on the inside. The reel shows good condition with some rusting and discoloration on the reel but is still in good display condition. The piece measures 7 5/8" L x 17 1/4" W x 23 3/4" H.
