For your consideration is this 1950s Louis Marx & Company Marx 3000 steel pressed toy riding train for children. In 1919, Louis Marx established the toy business Louis Marx & Co. in New York City. As it produced a wide range of toys, including trains, cars, dolls, and games, it quickly grew to become one of the biggest and most prosperous toy manufacturers in the United States. Marx believed in producing high-quality toys at prices that the typical family could afford. His business was well known for making robust toys that could withstand countless hours of play. The Marx Trains, Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots, and the Big Wheel were some of Marx's best-selling toy lines. Marx was one of the major producers of plastic toy soldiers for the American military during World War II. The business acquired additional toy businesses after the war and kept expanding and diversifying its offerings. But by the 1970s, the company was having trouble as a result of stiffer competition from foreign toy producers and shifting consumer preferences. Louis Marx & Co. declared bankruptcy and stopped doing business in 1978. This toy train shows a pressed steel construction and was originally painted light blue and orange. The back of the train is stamped with the Louis & Marx Co. logo while the sides read, "3000". The top of the train shows two handles for holding onto and carrying while the bottom shows four rubber wheels. The toy train shows fair condition with fading to the paint and rusting throughout. The wheels on the bottom still spin freely. The toy measures 27" L x 7" W x 12" H.
