Featured in this lot are two Westernware plates with L.A. Huffman photos on them circa 1990-2000s. American photographer L.A. Huffman gained fame for his photographs of Montana and the American West in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He was born in Wisconsin in 1854 and worked on farms and ranches throughout much of his youth before relocating to Montana in 1879. Huffman first developed an interest in photography in the 1880s, and he quickly rose to fame for his photographs of Montana's inhabitants, landscapes, and wildlife. The life and culture of the Crow, Blackfeet, and Sioux tribes of Plains Indians were particular subjects of his mastery. The images taken by Huffman serve as an important visual documentation of this time in American history. In 1931, Huffman passed away. The first plate shows a man standing in front of his horse as he holds the reins. The horse is saddled up and the man wears wooly chaps, a cowboy hat and a revolver on his hip. The bottom of the plate reads, "L.A. Huffman by Westernware / Dishwasher & Microwave Safe / 'Emma' - 1897". The photo was titled "Emma" and was taken in 1897. The plate shows good condition with no chips or cracks present. It comes in a fuzzy cloth zipper pouch to preserve the plate. The plate measures 5 1/8" L x 7 1/8" W x 15/16" H. The second plate shows a photo of a cowboy on horseback. The cowboy is holding the reins and is wearing wooly chaps, boots, a large cowboy hat and a revolver on his hip as he looks into the distance of the valley. The bottom of the plate reads, "L.A. Huffman By Westernware / Dishwasher & Microwave Safe / 'Tunis Henry' - 1886". The photo is of Tunis Henry and was taken in 1886. The plate shows good condition with no signs of chips or cracks. It comes in a fuzzy cloth zipper pouch to preserve the plate. The plate measures 5 1/8" L x 7 1/8" W x 15/16" H.
