The lot features a truly fantastic 19th-century Blackfoot / Blackfeet dag knife with bone handle and silver pewter inlay paired with a beaded buffalo hide sheath. The knife exhibits a forged iron classic beaver tail blade with double edge and raised median ridge running down the center, an early weapons feature also found on gunstock war clubs and lance blades. The knife has a buffalo bone carved handle with deep yellow patina, from honest age and use, held into place with iron rivets and artfully adorned silver pewter inlaid design at the bottom showing a zig-zag and sawtooth triangle design which runs around both sides. The knife is paired with an Indian buffalo brain tanned hide sheath with classic dag knife “V” shape. It has old red stroud clothe, hawk trade bells and old trade clothe with typical Blackfoot / Blackfeet stepped pattern of beadwork done in antique glass trade seed beads with colors of chalk white, cobalt, greasy yellow, medium green and Cheyenne pink. The sheath displays very well and is well kept, likely a later addition. Provenance: From the ex-Jim Bastian collection. Knife measures 12-inches long and the sheath is 10.5-inches long.
