This is an original albumen cabinet card photograph by Angelo J. Dusseau (1842-1908) in Butte, Montana Territory in the 1880s of a Montana man in buckskin hunting coat holding a Trout in one hand, shotgun in the other, pistol in his belt and dog at his foot. A.J. Dusseau's true calling, as a photographer, began in Deer Lodge around 1874, and he moved to the thriving town of Butte by 1876 or 1877. By 1882, his residence and studio were both located in "The House that Jack Built," a two-story structure on the junction of Broadway and Main that now houses the Hirbour Tower. His sign, "Dusseau the Photographer," adorned the Main Street side of the building until it was replaced by the Hirbour in 1901. After Desseau died in 1908, R. Thompson, his business partner at the time, took over operations. This photo shows a man posing for a photo in the Butte studio as he holds a fish in one hand, the barrel of his rifle in the other and has his dog laying down near his feet. The man has a small smile on his face and sports a mustache. He wears a cowboy hat and shotgun shells around his waist. The bottom of the photo is marked reading, "Dusseau / Butte, Mont.". The back of the cabinet card reads, "A.J. Dusseau Portraits / Butte, Mont. / N.E. Cor. Main St. And Broadway". The photo shows good condition overall with little to no wear present and no signs of damage noted. It measures 6 5/8" L x 4 1/4" W and weighs under 6 ounces.
