This is a fantastic 19th-century Central Plains woman’s saddle from an ex-collection from Sinking, Ohio, a Cowan's sale and a March in Montana sale. The saddle exhibits a carved wooden tree frame covered in parfleche rawhide which is sewn with rawhide lacing and is adorned with brass trade tacks on the pommel and cantle. The pommel and cantle have a classic Central Plains 1800’s tall and arching pattern. There is remnants of a thick Buffalo / Bison hide strap still attached. This is from the 1880-1890’s and is well kept with honest patina on the rawhide that also extends across the bottom of the saddle. Has a 9-inch seat. Provenance: Found to be authentic by the experts at Cowan's and sold in a September 2020 sale for $3,072; From an ex-collection from Sinking, Ohio; From the 2024 March in Montana sale where the saddle had a high estimate of $3,000; from a prominent Bozeman, Montana collection.
