The lot features a 19th-century Southern Plains woman’s saddle from an-ex Sinking Springs, Ohio collection, a former March in Montana sale and Cowan's sale. The saddle exhibits a carved wooden tree frame which is covered with rawhide parfleche, the pommel and horn are decorated with brass trade tacks and fringes. The saddle is well kept and displays beautifully. Saddle has a 12-inch seat. The rawhide has a wonderful, authentic patina and even covers the bottom of the tree. The rawhide is sewn with rawhide lacing. Provenance: Found to be authentic by the experts at Cowan's where it sold for $3,328; From the 2024 March in Montana sale where the saddle had a high estimate of $3,000; From a Sinking, Ohio collection, from a prominent Bozeman, Montana collection.
