The lot features a wonderful Chiricahua Apache of Fort Sill beaded hide Strike-A-Lite bag / tobacco pouch dating to the late-19th-century. The bag consists of Indian tanned hide buckskin being sewn with old trade thread and covered on the front with gorgeous Apache whimsical floral freeform geometric beadwork along with mineral pigment painted finish. The beadwork includes all period 1800's glass trade beads including greasy blue, butterscotch yellow, cobalt, chalk white, greasy green, Cheyenne pink white hearts, semi-transparent dark green, red white heart and semi-transparent pony beads. The top shows a red mineral pigment painted flap with beadwork and beadwork below it as well with original Indian hide belt tie. The bottom shows Indian hide fringes with old Skunk Medicine glass trade beads and wound glass padre trade beads, both early examples. This is a fantastic example that is well kept with soft supple hide showing little to no bead loss. Has an old 1920-1930's newspaper stuffed inside the bag. Measures overall 10.5-inches by 4.75-inches.
