Featured in this lot we have a Sharps model 1874 breech loading falling block sporting rifle chambered in .45 caliber. This sporting rifle was manufactured in the late 1870's by Sharps. The model 1874 was designed by Christian Sharp as a single shot sporting rifle. The sharp's rifle became iconic across the American west as one of the go to buffalo rifles and made appearances across numerous films and other western entertainment. The rifle shows a heavy 30" long octagonal barrel, walnut stock, metal butt plate, double triggers, adjustable buckhorn rear sights, and falling block design. The rifle is marked across the top of the barrel reading "SHARP'S RIFLE MANUFG. CO. HARTFORD CONN. CALIBRE 45". The receiver is marked on both sides with the left reading "C SHARP PAT SEPT 12TH 1848" and the right side reading "C SHARPS PATS OCT 5TH 1852". Mechanically the rifle shows a strong action, working double triggers, and bright rifling. The rifle shows wonderful condition overall with a warm patina across the receiver and light wear due to handling. This is a wonderful old rifle and would make a great addition to any collection.
