This is a beautiful early American Indian Dag Knife and beaded sheath attributed to the Sioux Indians of South Dakota in true art form and is from the Ted Levy collection of Santa Rosa, California. The 19th-century dag knife has a beaver back or beaver tail pattern with double edge blade having a median ridge running down the center of the blade. The blade has some oxidation and wear from honest age. There is a wooden handle secured to the blade with seven copper rivets with nice art appeal. The sheath is comprised of Indian brain-tanned buffalo / bison hide with an attractive beaded design in classic Sioux pattern, sometimes referred to as the rattlesnake pattern with diamond and cross motifs. The beads are all early glass trade seed beads that are sinew sewn and shows colors of red white heart, cobalt, chalk white, greasy yellow and light blue. Provenance: From the Ted Levy collection in Santa Rosa, California. Dag knife measures 13-1/2 inches in length. Sheath is 16-1/2 inches long by 4-inches wide.
