The lot features a fabulous 19th-Century Osage Pony Bead Collar from the ex- Ken Canfield of Canfield Gallery, Larry Williams and Mark Kokin Sherwoods Spirit of America collections. The piece exhibits an Indian tanned thick hide that is sinew sewn stuffed, likely with buffalo / bison or horse hair in a rare double roll design and covered on the front with a banded chalk white and greasy blue beaded design that is sinew sewn and shows late-1700’s to early 1800’s early old pony trade beads. See the 1800-1825 Native American Pony Bead Chief Collar from Bradford’s and the Osage Indian Pony Bead Collar Early to Mid-19th Century from New England Auctions which sold for over $1,200 (w/ bp). The inside of the collar shows a red ocher / ochre finish. The piece shows little to no bead loss, soft hide and overall, well preserved to nearly unused condition, truly a fine piece. Provenance: From the ex-collection of Ken Canfield (1941-2006), a renowned Santa Fe, New Mexico dealer who established Canfield Gallery in the 1980’s; ex-collection of Larry Williams / Mark Kokin of Sherwoods Spirit of America Santa Fe, N.M. Measures overall 26-inches outside circumference, box measurements of 12-inches by 8-inches by 2.25-inches. The collar is approx. 2 3/8-inches wide by 1-inches thick at the center. Amazing and rare piece.
